Core Wisdom
The part of Core Revision that isn’t questions or timetables — honest, practical guidance on how to revise for finals and how to stay steady while you do it.
Guidance, not just questions
Core Wisdom is where we write down the things that don’t fit inside a question bank: how to revise so it actually sticks, how to plan a calm run-up across the whole content map, and how to steady yourself when finals feel close. Short, practical reads from GPs who have been where you are now.
How to revise with active recall
Why re-reading feels productive but slips away — and the three techniques that make knowledge stick: retrieval, spacing and interleaving. Plus how to get the most from a question bank.
LearningA calm plan for finals
Cover all 24 areas of the content map over months, not in a panic the week before. How to build a run-up you can actually keep to — and what to do when you fall behind.
LearningSteadying finals & exam-day nerves
Kind, practical ways to settle in the weeks before and on the day itself — sleep, logistics, and where to turn for support if it starts to feel like more than nerves.
Real-lifeClinical topic notes are on the way
We’re also writing short, exam-focused notes on the clinical areas students find hardest, each one grounded in current UK guidance. Because they carry clinical content, they’re held back until they’re ready — our clinical material is written by practising GPs and re-audited against current guidance. Until then, the worked explanations live inside the question bank.
Why we built a wisdom shelf at all
Most of us revise the way we were taught to at school: read it, highlight it, hope it sticks. It rarely does, and it’s a big reason finals feel harder than they need to. These pages are the advice we’d give you over coffee — the methods that genuinely work, and permission to be kind to yourself while you use them.
Where this sits
Core Wisdom sits alongside the rest of your UKMLA toolkit.
Written by practising UK GPs — Dr Victoria Hammond and Dr David Palethorpe. Education only — always confirm against current guidance. Core Revision is an independent revision resource.
