Short answer: you find a DCSRH trainer through CoSRH’s Find-a-Trainer platform, searching by location and by the qualification you want. Send requests to more than one, because trainers take on a limited number of candidates at a time. You need a trainer confirmed before you can apply for the DCSRH (formerly the DFSRH). Trainers set their own fees, so agree the cost and what it covers before you apply. Checked against cosrh.org and the CoSRH help centre on 16 October 2026.
Why the trainer comes first
You cannot apply without one. CoSRH’s entry requirements put it plainly: “You can’t submit an application until you’ve confirmed one, so it’s worth starting that conversation early.”
CoSRH calls them College Registered Trainers (CRTs) or CoSRH Registered Trainers. Not every area has one nearby.
Your two years to finish run from the date your application is approved, so time spent searching does not count against them. In our view, start looking before you start revising.
How to find a DCSRH trainer
CoSRH’s Find a Trainer page links to its Find-a-Trainer platform and sets out the steps:
- Register as a candidate. Complete your profile with your role and location.
- Search by location and by the qualification you want. Everyone listed has already been approved by CoSRH as a College Registered Trainer or Principal Trainer.
- Send requests to more than one trainer. Requests are sometimes declined because trainers have limited capacity.
- Agree your terms once a request is accepted.
- Apply for the Diploma, giving your trainer’s name.
If you cannot find a trainer, CoSRH says to get in touch and it will help you look.
Remote training
The Diploma can be completed remotely if your trainer offers it. CoSRH’s help centre says it is set up so that all of the content can be done remotely.
Check before you start. CoSRH asks you to confirm with your trainer, before training begins, that they can support virtual training. If your Assessment Half Day is not arranged locally, CoSRH runs a virtual one on Zoom for £343.

The DCSRH Question Bank has 650 OTA-style questions on contraception, UKMEC 2025, prescribing and STI management, with a UKMEC eligibility trainer and an AHD station simulator. It is £49.99 for 12 months. Try ten questions first, free and with no sign-up.
What your trainer does
CoSRH lists five jobs for your trainer:
- supporting you through your learning and answering questions as you go;
- reviewing the evidence in your Independent Learning Portfolio of 23 formative activities;
- carrying out your five Summative Clinical Assessments, which assess real consultation skills and clinical competence;
- guiding your study for the Online Theory Assessment and the Assessment Half Day;
- signing off your work on the Training Hub.
All five clinical assessments must be signed off before you can sit the Assessment Half Day. You can agree the order of the four assessments with your trainer.
Your Primary Trainer, the one named on your application, gives the final electronic sign-off. A second trainer can carry out assessments with you on paper, but the system holds only one Primary Trainer. To change yours, raise a help centre ticket.
Trainer fees
Trainers set their own fees. CoSRH says training costs are agreed directly between you and your trainer and are separate from the fees you pay to CoSRH. It does not publish a typical trainer fee, so the only way to know is to ask.
CoSRH sets its own fees. Enrolment is £331 at 2026 prices, including your first theory attempt. Full-year Diplomate membership is £142 in 2026; you may pay less depending on when you qualify. CoSRH’s fees page estimates the total at £473 to £1,300 or more.
Once a trainer accepts, CoSRH suggests agreeing these before you apply:
- what your trainer charges and what that covers;
- whether the figure includes all five clinical assessments;
- where your clinical assessments will take place;
- how often you will meet and over what period;
- when you will start.
It recommends confirming these in writing, so you both have a record of what was agreed.
Practical steps, in our view
This part is our advice, not CoSRH guidance.
- Ask around first. Colleagues who hold the Diploma, your local sexual health service or your GP training programme may know who has space.
- Make each request specific. Say what you do, where you work, when you want to start and whether you need remote training.
- Cover the awkward cases. Ask what happens to the fee if either of you cannot carry on. Ask too whether an Assessment Half Day runs locally.
- Use any wait for theory. The Online Theory Assessment is open book, but 50 questions in an hour leaves little time to look things up.
Our piece on fitting the DCSRH around a full week has more on planning the time.
How this fits the platform
We do not run courses or offer clinical training, so the clinical side stays with your trainer. The DCSRH hub has a question bank of 650 questions in the style of the Online Theory Assessment across 12 modules. Timed mocks give you 50 questions in 60 minutes. It also has the ten-chapter revision guide and the Station Simulator for timed Assessment Half Day stations. Full access is £49.99 for 12 months. The Core 10 daily questions and the five interactive decoders are free with any account. You can try ten questions free first.
Quick answers
How do I find a DCSRH trainer?
Register on CoSRH’s Find-a-Trainer platform and search by location and qualification. Send requests to more than one trainer, as requests are sometimes declined.
Is a DFSRH trainer the same as a DCSRH trainer?
The DCSRH was formerly the DFSRH. The trainers you need are CoSRH’s College Registered Trainers, listed on its Find-a-Trainer platform.
Can I apply for the DCSRH before I have a trainer?
No. You cannot submit an application until a College Registered Trainer has agreed to support you.
Can I do the DCSRH remotely?
Yes, if your trainer supports it. CoSRH asks you to confirm virtual training with your trainer before you start.
How much does a DCSRH trainer charge?
Trainers set their own fees, separate from CoSRH’s. CoSRH does not publish a typical figure, so agree the cost and what it covers before you apply.
